Travertine mined in quarries near the city – St. Mark, Rosara and Acquasanta Terme, the latter still active – and was used not only locally, but exported to various regions of Italy and abroad. In these quarries the quality of the stone varies slightly for grain and subtle color shades, on a common basis of ivory which over the years takes on the appearance, at the same time solar and severe, we can admire today in the streets of downtown.
