The Montagna dei Fiori (or Montagna d’Ascoli for its proximity to the town, Mëndàgna in Ascoli’s dialect and la Mundagnë in Abruzzese dialect) is a mountain in Abruzzo (Province of Teramo), close to the border with Le Marche, within whose territory it partially extends. It is located on the eastern end of the Monti della Laga mountain range and, together with the Montagna di Campli, it is part of the range of the Monti Gemelli (Twin Mountains), which are divided by the Salinello gorges. Montagna dei Fiori is about 20 km far from Ascoli Piceno (San Giacomo di Valle Castellana is 18 km far from the town) and can be reached through the same road as San Marco. The mountain lies within the municipalities of Valle Castellana, Civitella del Tronto and Ascoli Piceno and has two main peaks, both in the Abruzzo Region, Monte Girella (1,814 m) and Monte Piselli (1,676 m). The former’s southern side is a common destination for professional climbers but also features more gentle slopes on the northern and northwestern sides. The latter is a crowded tourist destination in wintertime for its skiing facilities. At 1,100 m a.s.l. is San Giacomo, a traditional meeting point for excursionists. Tourist and accommodation facilities -open both in summer and winter- can be found in the village. At 1.426 m a.s.l. are the skiing facilities, consisting of a chair lift and a skiing conveyor belt, used mostly by amateur skiers to get to the slopes (1.643 m). Facilities can be reached by a dirt road from San Giacomo.
